Our Story

The Brumwell Family in 2006

Voyageur's View is a family-owned and operated resort that opened in 1985. Tubing had been done in the Red Lake Falls area for quite some time, but never commercially. In the summer of 1984, while serving on The Red Lake Falls Swimming Pool Committee, Richard and Diane Brumwell along with a local family who had been renting tubes from their garage put together a "tube race" fundraiser to try and raise funds to get a swimming pool built in Red Lake Falls. The fundraiser was a mild success, but the following weekend over 1,000 people showed up to Red Lake Falls wanting to try out tubing down the Red Lake River!

Through many more fundraising efforts, the Red Lake Falls Swimming Pool eventually was built, but the idea of Tubing the Red Lake River as a business venture was implanted in Dick and Diane as well as some other local familes. The following summer Richard and Diane Brumwell successfully transformed what was once a cattle pasture into what they named Voyageur's View, Tubing and Camping.

Three other companies opened their doors the summer of 1985 as well, but shortly after the beginning of the tubing boom, draught hit our region. Two of the newly formed tubing operations were the first to succumb to the hardship of this time, leaving only Voyageur's View and "Tube The Red" which was located directly across County Road 13. As the draught years continued and business continued to falter, "Tube The Red" eventually closed it's doors leaving only The Brumwell's and their Voyageur's View. Dick and Diane decided to give the tubing operation one more year to see if the conditions would get any better before they decided to give up on their dreams...and that summer the water began to rise, and the guests returned!

The year 2006 was a pivotal year for the organization as the campground cleanup was still taking place, The Brumwell family lost their matriarch, Diane, to ovarian cancer. The passing of Diane took place mid July during our busiest part of the season and shed a light on what Voyageur's View is all about. The staff, consisting of area high school and college kids, took over the operation in order to give the family time to process their loss and individuals who started out as guests of Voyageur's View Tubing and Camping, filled the pews the day of Diane's funeral to pay their respects.

After the loss of Diane, Richard decided that it may be time to turn the reigns over to the next generation. In 2008, Stephanie, Ryan & Jason (three of Richard & Diane's Children) purchased the company. Having grown up in the tubing business and knowing how much family meant to their parents, the group has continued to transition the organization back into the fun for all ages, family friendly atmosphere they once embodied.
